Creating a Better You
Personal coaching
Wondering what to do in the quiet period while everyone else is away? How about some ‘Better You’ coaching to get you off to a great start?
I love the momentum of a new start – whether artificially created or imposed on us. Mentally we can get caught up in mixed thinking patterns – some supportive others not. Emotions are a bit all over the place, with highs and lows rather than stability. Physically we may even be tired needing to renew and rejuvenate. And spiritually we might even need a boost and lift to get our heart and soul back into the work we do. From a whole person perspective getting off to a good start is not just about one thought. No, it’s about a concentrated and clear intention followed by genuine commitment to a new direction.
Are you ready to not just let go of what is holding you back and move into a new way? Is it time that you really finally follow your heart and get yourself into gear, take action and really truly create the work and life you desire?
There are four steps to the Creating a Better You process. Depending on your current self-awareness and personal growth, you can choose the step you need or all four steps. It’s your call. Here’s what is on offer:
One: Check in and review
With this step you pause for a moment to first discover where you are at in your life and work. The focus is your choice. You review how it has been for you in 2011 from a whole person perspective – mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. The level of detail is up to you.
The discussion will also cover how you are going in each of these areas right now. You may know on the surface yet through sensitive questioning you can uncover some of what is truly happening. For those of you prone to see the glass as half empty I pay particular attention to what is positive, working and good right now. I believe quite strongly that as we focus more on this side of the equation we put more energy in this direction.
Take away: Renewed focus on positive aspects of your life and work. A whole person perspective. Capturing and processing the year gone by.
Two: Create your dream
With this step you suspend judgment, analysis, evaluation and any other inner critic in your head. You pause and connect to the authentic aspect of yourself. Then from this place you are guided to capture the expression of your wildest most amazing dreams and desires. We get it all out on paper, on video or audio. It’s your choice. You keep going until you are absolutely clear you have brought it all to the surface. Then we capture the essence of your dream in visual representation.
Take away: Reconnection to elements of what makes you passionate in life and work. External expression of your dreams and desires. Possibly audio, video, print or other recording.
Three: Commit to action
With this step you connect your dream to your reality. This step is actually an ongoing self review step. However it also is helpful to have some assistance in getting started, sorting through what to do and what not to do, and really getting into the energy of commitment. I often reflect on the following quote when moving into this phase:
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.” (W. H. Murray(quoting John Anster(paraphrasing Goethe)
It is in this spirit and context that step three takes shape. You then identify how go forward towards your dream. Key to this process is to also anchor your changes in your world and reality. Though you are setting out to change and shift it is important to maintain a supportive foundation.
Take away: Actions mapped to your current situation and aspects of the dream expressed above.
Four: Pause for celebration
With this step you give yourself permission to stop for a moment. For many of us the energy expended is in the shifting and shaping of our lives. We often do not take the time to pause for celebration, acknowledgement and self-congratulatory pat on the back. Taking out the ego in this experience such a moment can really ground us in our self and at the same time propel us forward into even more exciting adventures of life and work. So it is in this way that the last step is set up to celebrate, review and then honor the new you. This session focuses on a combination of facilitated reflection and insight coupled with visual capture of your current place in the process.
Take away: Mini process you create to regularly celebrate your successes along the way.
